This exhibition and its catalog presented more than one hundred and fifty original works by the artist René Gruau (1909-2004): from fashion illustration, which he tackled as an autodidact in the 1920s, to his advertising creations for many brands, especially in the fashion and textile industry.
If his collaboration with the house Christian Dior, from the end of the 1940s, brought him international recognition, he also created many other advertising campaigns in the fields of perfumery, fashion or cosmetics, travel, luxury, constantly reinventing French elegance. Among them, those of the brands Rouge Baiser, Bemberg, Blizzand, Eminence ... and many others, including the promotion of Parisian cabarets Le Moulin Rouge and Le Lido.
Its dynamic graphics are inspired by poster artists from the turn of the century, who themselves drank from the sources of Japonism disseminated by Samuel Bing in the Paris of Toulouse-Lautrec. The work of Gruau is infinitely rich, its sovereign line accompanies the female representation over more than sixty years.
Witness of its time, Gruau has also visually marked several generations through its timeless work.
